I'm on the short side as well at 5'2". Step stools are my friend!
I've not read the book in question, but definitely would not be willing to read a book that "talked down" about a short person all the time. I would find that annoying (and rude!).

ETA: I noticed that there is now new challenges on the Harlequin my rewards site - andthey are the special ads for the 1.99 sale.
