My experience with temporary home-made solutions is that the magnet needs to be quite strong, but not so strong that it also switches the device on/off if you fold the front cover to the back when reading.

Thanks for the info, today I stopped by Home Depot, got some small neodymium disks, and after a while I found the exact spot, which happens to be where that small pocket in the front cover is, so that worked out very well! And I checked folding over, the cover's way too thick for that to be an issue.
I did however notice how picky the KA1 is, and somehow registers a magnet like finger touch, flipping pages or even highlighting things when I pushed it around... now I can understand much better why people are having so many issues with the official sleep cover, the slightest disturbance (like lying on a metal table) and it registers as something different from the intended sleep switch
