XP file manager is a little more forgiving. Maybe reset Explorer in Win 7 and then set to view hidden folders and files. You also try an alternative file manager like Explorer++. Security in Win 7 is tighter than XP and some things cannot deal with that. However I am not having a problem with Win 10, so I am guessing it is a setting in your Win 7 Explorer.
