The real kicker is that I was originally provided an RMA but it was later reneged promising an update on Sept 26 to fix this issue.
I have to constantly have my KA1 plugged into an outlet while reading as it's bound to be dead when I pick it up to read.
Frustrated...

Quoting my own message here as I just received the following from Kobo in response to the ticket telling me to visit the goodereads article:
