I just finished Ken Follett's "World Without End." LOVED IT! In fact, I loved it as much as I loved "The Pillars of the Earth," the first book of the two, written back in the late 1980's. I highly recommend them to fans of medieval life in England.

Pillars of the Earth

Life is rough for a mason in the 12th century. This book is really in two parts, the first being Tom Builder's story of hardship while he seeks his dream of building a cathedral. The second part is when his talented stepson, Jack, Jack's son, (Jack Jackson, get it?) takes over construction after Tom's death. For romance fans, there is also plenty of love, lust, and passion.

World Without End

This book is more modern and character driven. It revolves around the lives of four childhood friends and follows them over the courses of their lives. Two hundred years later in the 14th century, the town has grown up around the cathedral to be a leading market town in England. The cathedral leaders are corrupt, but they are opposed by the saintly nuns. Fans of love, lust, passion, violence, poverty, and of course, repeated bouts with plague will love this book as much as I did.

World Without End was $11.99 at the Sony Bookstore.
