This doesn't work if the book isn't available in the donee's area but a recent poster said he, on Amazon.co.uk, had had a gift from the US.
So since this book is available, just at a full price, perhaps something could be tried.

It will work, provided the ASIN is the same in both countries. Often there is a different publisher, so different ASINs, in which case you are offered a gift card if you call customer service, instead.
