I have Kobos and Kindles although I don't have the Aura HD. My neighbor does though and I've helped him set it up and I showed him how to use it and spent half a day with it so I'm kind of familiar with it.

I prefer the Kindles. Their interface is more straightforward and it has all the features I really care about. It's also a little faster but I'm not sure how important that is. And the Kindle interface is more reliable. It's features pretty much always work. With the Kobo the important features always work but sometimes the minor features don't. It depends on the book.

The screen is equally good on both. The Aura HD is slightly larger and to me that isn't an advantage although I realize to some it is.

The Kobos do have a micro SD card slot. I've never used it but many people do.

The real test, though, is reading. I read on my Kobos and on my Kindles and since I'm more used to the Kindle feature set they seem more natural to me. But the truth is I'm equally happy reading on either.

My particular Kobos are the original Auras which have a poorer screen light than the Aura HD but it's still just fine. If I could only have one reader it would be my Voyage but if it had to be the Aura I'd be fine with that.
