Well, it didn't take a week for my experiment to fail. With Wi-Fi on, and AutoSync set to 'evening', I just noticed it got stuck in an autosync loop in the middle of the night (after 3 a.m. local time), so it's pretty obvious I can't leave the Wi-Fi on under any circumstance.
