That prompted me to keep more of my collections in the cloud, and not on my kindle. So that I can have only 1 page of collections, with one real book at the bottom, to remind me that there are books here too.

My collections tend to be more "tags". A book is in several collections, so they don't all have to be local to the kindle. For instance, a book is in "paid$" and "paid-unread" till I read it. After I read it, it is in "paid$", "done" and "read2016". So "done" and "paid-unread" live on the kindle, but the others don't. It keeps the index less cluttered, while still allowing me to tag my books.
