I haven't measured reading hours, but it is much more than a couple of hours.
I never really timed how long I can use my phone with the screen turned on. I mostly use my phone as MP3 player (Spotify), but the screen is off then (though I do use it as a phone, with wifi and bluetooth default on). I don't use apps like facebook, twitter, whatsapp and such, but even with wifi and bluetooth default on, I get 2 days use out of it (when using it as MP3 player for around 6 hours per day). So I think I should be to read more than a couple of hours on my phone, if I really had no other option (I think the screen is the wrong dimension for comfortable reading).

I know I can still read for a couple of hours on my (aging) 8" windows tablet...
