That means that you left the default settings unchanged to the effect that KSM runs only each second time you reboot the reader. This opens the door for nickel to install updates on its own. If nickel installs a real FW update, you will have to reinstall KSM afterwards. Therefore, it is better to change the settings (see the first post of this thread, in the box "Installation"). This will allow you to control updates, and install the Kobo FW updates in a way that KSM survives (by selecting "install partial update").
