Is there really no way to disable switching to two columns when reducing font size?

It seems to me that the limit varies from epub to epub. Some I can get to very small font sizes on one line, others cut to two columns at much bigger sizes, for the same font.

I find this really annoying, part of the appeal of kobo ereaders for me is the ability to use very small fonts.
