Basically, it was replacing/modifying files in the restore partition to update the firmware version installed on a factory reset. You need a Kobo with an internal uSD card and then need to open it up to get the uSD card out before starting. I did this on a Glo since it was easy to open up -- dropped it about a metre, it landed on a corner and pretty much popped open. Fun in the wonder if I can do this way but not really useful though with my Aura HD now doing a two step update after a factory reset, it's tempting to revisit the project. OTOH, I'm not enthused about peeling a H2O apart and the Aura One doesn't have the internal uSD card.
