I don't see this problem, at least as how I understand it. What I tried:
- Create a float custom column, without a formatting template.
- Enter values in the column in the spreadsheet. No problems.
- Use metadata edit (single) to edit the field. No problem.
- Select two books with the same value in the field and open bulk edit. I see the correct value in bulk edit. After changing the value I see the correct new value in the spreadsheet.
- Select books with different values in the column and launch bulk edit. This time I see (Undefined) in bulk edit. If I change the value then I see the new value in the spreadsheet.
I repeated these steps on a column with a formatting template with the same results.
I use a locale specifying "1,234.56". Your example implies that you are using a locale specifying "1 234,56". I don't know if I am interpreting your example correctly or if it makes any difference.
