It is frustrating. However, do you really want Kobo to rush out a fix without doing enough testing to make sure the cure is not worse than the disease? Personally, I'd rather wait the extra time. I really don't want to relive the fun that I had when a Windows out of band update to fix a zero day issue caused about half the corporate computers to bluescreen on startup.

For myself, since I added the PeriodicAutoSync=false item to the configuration file, I haven't seen excessive battery drain. Though from other's experiences, that could be happenstance.
