When you talk Firewall, are you needing the content server Off premise ?
To do that, you need to open a pinhole (port forward) to allow a specific outside service request to reach a designated 'server'

Any opening is a elevation in risk.
How much is one (calibre HTTP) port to your entire system? Probably not much if you keep your security updates current.

What is to be considered, is anyone that finds your content server can download those books.
