I do believe barryem may have misunderstood your post. As I recall, you borrow most of your books.
You are right about the probable misunderstanding. I can't help it, I am just a grunch these days and tend to shot right away without warning.

OT about the library books

Spoiler:
Library books make sense in Germany. Books written in German are subject to a retail price maintenance agreement and have to be offered everywhere at the same fixed price. They also are quite expensive. And to top it all off, ebooks are just marginally below the price of physical books. So lending as much as I can makes sure I am able to feed my reading habit. Or piracy. But the library is only 10€ per year.

As I said before, almost all other ebook-shops and all the libraries stock epub. Mobi/azw3 are an Amazon exclusive and thus a Kindle is the choice of those who either buy all their books at Amazon or strip their epubs and sideload. Which is fine, but I 1. don't want to strip library books, 2. don't like to buy too much with Amazon as they don't pay taxes in my country and 3. come from a Sony and like the Kobo software better anyway.

As for the bigger screen Kindle, I think they'll come up with one now.

And regarding the tablet. There are tablets that are nice for reading, high resolution, 4:3 format. Nowadays some of them are even available for a very competitve price. Like this for example or this. Funny though, non of the Fire tablets has a resolution nearly as high.
