It's an interesting move for Amazon--challenging the razor/blades paradigm. If they want to make money on hardware, it's great. If they want to make it on selling eBooks, it's questionable. Overall, though, I think it's wise for them to increase the appeal. I don't think Sony offers free Gutenberg versions from their store.
