What are you talking about fatter?
Lord Of The Rings is only fatter if you look at the story in a one volume. There is three parts each containing two books. Every single book is smaller than even
Storm Front, which I believe to be one of the shorter ones in
The Dresden Files. I see roughly 24k locations for
LOTR (including appendixes), 4k for
Storm Front, 7k for
Dead Beat or
Skin Game, 8k for
Cold Days or
Ghost Story. Even Harry Potter is more words than LOTR.
But I see the point that LOTR simply was one gigantic task compared to smaller subplots each kind of finished in each book of longer series. Sometimes it feels drug out the way Tolkien kind of used too many words to say so little.
