People here do know their readers and are offered fixes/hacks. For them to take it back it needs to have a fault they can not fix themselves like a bad screen.
Normal buyers like my girlfriends or my mom would only see the device doesn't work as advertised and take it back.
Even if they would find their way to this forum, none of them would be confident enough to mess with software configurations.
If you bought a car and it guzzles up more gas than you were told it does, you'd go to the shop and make them fix it or give you another one.
Most people refuse to be used as beta testers for the money they spent.

Well now on the car, it would depend. Are you talking say an estimated 30 mpg highway miles and I get 15 or are you talking estimated 22 and I get 17 pulling a trailer?
First one yes, second one no.
Also note I said best guess was between 5 and 25% percent.
And you are very right on the normal use buyer.
