Wrong tab. You want the last one, called "Extended". Unchecking "Enable Extended Kobo Features" turns off the kepub generation and the books will be sent as epubs. Some of the other options don't do anything when this is not checked. Some do. I don't use the plugin enough to be sure which do.

Other than kepubs and the other options shown on the Extended tab, the extended driver does some other things differently. For example, if you use the "Modify CSS" option, the extended driver will copy the "kobo_extra.css" file to the device.
