Yes, now that fixed price format is free (you used to be charged for that), I use fixed price instead of auction or reserve. There is also a feature called Best Offer that you can choose or not. Sometimes I'll go with it, sometimes I won't, but at least I'm getting a price that I'm comfortable with.
There are rare occasions where large sections of the East cannot access Ebay (weather) - I benefited from one of those auctions as there wasn't anybody to bid against me. It's unfortunate that you can't get Ebay to put a hold on auctions when so many potential bidders can't get in to bid.
