It was the same here before I moved out.

If I threw something out the back door, he would bring it back in through the front. In the end the house is just filling up with useless junk that 'could be useful someday in the future.'

Dad. You're 77. A 30-year old industrial hammer drill that doesn't start is not useful in your future. Even if it DID start, it wouldn't be useful, because it'll rattle your teeth out at your age. You can't even lift it anymore, for frack's sake.
