If by canyon you mean a gap between the plastic bezel/casing and the glass, then no, it shouldn't be normal, but I have it too and I also have minor light leaking inside of the gap from the notification LED at the top right corner.
It doesn't bother me, though since the led ring is always off except when turning the device on
