Here is what I need to do.
I have attached one of my experimental files in doc format. (I changed it from docx in order to upload it.) Calibre does strip off the borders, but it uploads the image with the proper size and position. (Interestingly, it strips the borders off the input file too, when I upload it to Calibre.) Uploading from the odt would get the borders, but sometimes (erratically it seemed) would not include the image itself. So I guess what I need to do is create the input file as a doc file and embed the outline as well as the caption in the image itself. That would work.
