Thanks. That is a good point: the KPW1 has raised bezels, and thus the hard cover doesn't touch the screen. I put the reader in the front zipper/pouch of my work bag, with the back to the outside (I can get it in and out from there, easily, without opening the entire bag). Sometimes the bag gets bumped, kicked, dropped... whatever can happen to a bag. The KPW doesn't have a single scratch though, and even the cover looks like new.

I think the only way to actually damage the KPW1 in this cover is to smash it with a hammer, from the front. I'd want something like that for the KA1, and it doesn't need to be a thin cover. The one for my KPW1 actually also covers the bezel, so the screen is even a 'double step down', if you know what I mean. I don't mind if a KA1 cover covers the bezels. I'm not hell-bent on keeping the front end flush at all costs.
