I think it depends what you're used to. I find page speed in standard epubs to be perfectly fast enough for any practical purpose, (e.g. read page - turn page - repeat to end of book). However for anyone coming from Kindle or Android device to Kobo I think it just feels slow in comparison. There is no doubt that page turning is much faster in kepubs if that's important to someone. It's most noticable if you keep tapping to skip through pages. In standard epub it soon can't keep up with the repeat tapping whereas in kepubs it's fine.

Only kepubs have the permanent top margin containing book title. Standard epubs have nothing at all. In fact, personally, I need to force-inject a bit of top margin so the text isn't too close to the top bezel.
