I don't think epub3 per se is a problem, but Kobo used to force a download as kepub through the desktop app. Hence the need for the obok plugin. It would be nice if I didn't have to bother with that dreadful desktop app anymore.

I thought I had, but epub 3 books I can find are DRM free. It might be that a few of the kepubs were epub 3, but the epub versions were epub 2.
