All you folks unhappy with the cold could move here to Melbourne. We've just gone through a heatwave - three days with over 40 degrees Centigrade. Today topped 45 degrees C. And to make it even more uncomfortable we've got electricity blackouts - apparently caused by the bush fires.

Because the heat has disabled railway lines and trains, the government has offered free public transport today as compensation. So I took a free bus to a big shopping mall and spent the day there - ahhh the air conditioning!!!!

Then I came home. It was so hot in my flat that water was coming out of the cold water tap scalding hot. My wooden desk was too hot to sit at. My computer and router were too hot to turn on. And then the power went off.

All I could do was run the cold water in the shower until it was cold and jump in there for a few minutes. Then sit in my boxers on a towel until I was a ball of sweat again and then jump back in the shower. I've been doing that every hour or two. We're supposed to limit our showers to 4 minutes to conserve water. The government has issued everyone little waterproof egg timers to help judge the time. I've gone way over my 4 minutes today.

But now the power is back on and there's a cool change in the weather - it's down to the high 30's. The heat wave is over. I might even get some sleep tonight.

So I thought I'd write in and whinge.
