Transfering Books Back To Computer

I have an old 505 which has an SD card with masses of books on it, some of which I'd like to read without having to find them all and buying them again.

Is it possible for me to move the files back on to the computer so that I can convert them to mobi files and put them on my paperwhite? Theoretically, I think I should somehow be able to put the SD card into a slot in the computer, but I've never actually done this and would rather transfer them via connecting the reader to the pc.

The main reason I don't want to read directly on the 505 is lack of lighting and poor house lighting. The paperwhite really compensates for this.

I still have some very old Sony software which I used to use to put books on the reader; can I reverse the process?

If it's possible, please tell me how to do it.
Thank you very much for helping.
