FYI - the Start Menu items are also shortcuts (.LNK files).

FWIW: the taskbar yet another folder of shortcuts, it's stored at %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar. Internet Explorer -- it's legacy from the days of Windows 98 and the Active Desktop
