Dead Silent by Liverpudlian author Mark Roberts is the 2nd novel in his Eve Clay series of mystery/crime thrillers starring the eponymous DCI in the county of Merseyside (
Wikipedia), this installment pitting her against a killer who has targeted a Liverpool-resident medieval art professor for some sort of gruesome, highly symbolic re-enactment, which his daughter had the misfortune to witness, free courtesy of publisher Head of Zeus.
NB: Apparently the entire series thus far is somewhat on the gory violent side for police procedural crime thrillers, according to the customer reviews. OTOH, the Gentle Readers who could deal with that seemed to like the books a lot. YMMV, if it's a major turn-off for you in your entertainment reading (I'm squeamish about it myself, which is why I rarely read or watch most forms of horror).

Amazon UK (not available in the usual other countries when I spot-check assorted regional stores). Price-drop-check linkage for

Sainsbury, if you're feeling optimistic.
And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because while Head of Zeus is actually really generous with the freebies, provided you have an iTunes UK or Australia account and catch their frequent contributions to the featured Free Book of the Week in those stores, they rarely show up outside of iTunes (in fact, they have separate UK & Australia FBOTW features this week, neither of which is this). I've no idea what's going on with this (I kind of suspect glitch), but it's nice to see them offering in slightly more accessible stores.
Enjoy!
