That is my luck to with Kobo. Yes, every iteration of the Ereader has had some pretty huge flaws since their inception ten years ago. Theres no such thing as a perfect device but yes, you are right, ereading tech particularly has had some real difficulties in getting screens of a tolerable quality. Particularly with the advent of smartphones, everybody expects impeccable displays from their devices but for whatever reasons they never seem to cut it with ereader displays and people are able to debate their perceptions here til the cows come home. And still, nobody knows why! Mystifying. But in your specific case, I would exchange your KA1 for a new one as it appears to me that so far the A1 is not plagued with the same problems every other ereader has (huge light gradients, annoying lighting, etc.). It is at least consistant with only 1 or 2 little flaws being pointed out. So go for it!
I think the KA1 is about as close to perfect as an Eink device we're going to get. Im going to go pray to my Kobo shrine now. Fanboy 4 life
