Something to consider is that the original could have been created from an EPUB3. Trying to force it into an EPUB2 box may be the reason it doesn't function properly. Also, some Kindlebooks are, quite frankly, a complete disaster under the hood. You might be better off converting the azw3 in a case like that instead of trying to unpack into an epub.
