I'm 99% sure the changes in 2.67 only effect the dragging and dropping of images into book details. See following github entries

Add a tweak in Preferences-Tweaks to exclude some images types

I moved your thread, as I didn't want others thinking the change was related to the Editor. The launchpad tickets referenced in the What's New entries are a good source of background information (i.e. the why) about changes.
