A Parent’s Guide to Raising a Reader
You just heard from your child’s teacher that the class will be participating in the BOOK IT! Program. Here is some info about the program and how you can be a partner at home to ensure your child’s success.

What is the BOOK IT! Program?
Created in 1984 by Pizza Hut, BOOK IT! fosters a lifelong love of reading by motivating children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza!

Why is our school participating in the BOOK IT! Program?
The BOOK IT! Program is free to K-6 grade classrooms and homeschools. This flexible program allows teachers to set an individual reading goal for your child, based on their ability, and when your child meets that goal each month (October – March) they are recognized by their teacher and awarded with a certificate redeemable for a free, one-topping Personal Pan Pizza® from Pizza Hut.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE?
The BOOK IT! Program is offered to students in grades kindergarten through sixth (ages 5-12 years old) at the school they primarily attend.

I AM A HOME EDUCATOR. AM I ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN BOOK IT!?
Yes! If you are a home educator and your K-6 grade (ages 5-12) child does not attend another educational facility, you are eligible to participate. Please visit our homeschool enrollment page for more information.

CAN VIRTUAL/ONLINE SCHOOLS ENROLL?
Yes. Virtual/Online schools must complete a Virtual/Online Academy Enrollment Order Form and Roster each year and return it via email or mail. Please call us at 800.426.6548 to request an enrollment form. Enrollment is open from August 1-September 15.

ARE OTHER GROUPS AND CLUBS ELIGIBLE?
No. While many other groups and programs (e.g., before and after school programs, public libraries, family resource centers, etc.) share our love of reading, our Advisory Council feels that if students participate in BOOK IT! with more than one organization, the rewards are less effective.

IS BOOK IT! OFFERED INTERNATIONALLY?
The program is available at participating Pizza Hut restaurants in Canada and Puerto Rico. Please contact their offices directly for program information and availability.
