At this point, you are out of luck. I'd have to port pretty much the whole driver to get it working on 1.48. What I would suggest is disabling the driver. Then use the "folder" device to connect to it. That will allow you to use calibre to send books to the device and see any sideloaded books on it. It won't have the extra's such as series info, collections and the covers.

If you are daring, you could change the journal mode on the database. You need to use an SQLite manager application or issue the appropriate command to do this. I did do this on one of my devices as an experiment, and it did work. I can't promise it will work perfectly, but I didn't have any problems.
