We've had cases of broken displays with no visible artifacts before. It's unusual but not impossible.

If the display is broken, the touchscreen might still work, and the device itself might still boot fine. If you can make a USB connection with the PC (requires the device to be powered on, USB cable connected, and you blindly hitting the "Connect" button [instead of Cancel button], which is somewhere in the lower third, center of the screen)... if you get that far then that only leaves the display [or displaycable, displaycontroller...]

If you had Wifi enabled and have a router where you can see online devices you could also check if it's still logging into Wifi. If it does then again, proof that device booted fine, only the display not working...
