The downgrade file is the same format as any other Amazon update file.
DO NOT attempt to decompress it.
If you must see the contents, use KindleTool.
Keep in mind, it is a signed file, once you take it apart, you can not put it together again.
So only do that to a spare copy of the file.
If using an OS that auto opens "known" files -
change your configuration to
NOT open "known" files.
Nowhere in the directions do I tell people to make any kind of change to the update_*.bin file.
Use it as is, if it passes the md5 validation.
Once you get rid of this serious case of PEBCAK, it will all work as documented.
