I don't read PDFs on my Kobo devices except for testing and the bus and train timetables. I've found that PDF display is very good. But, performance with larger more complex documents can be bad. And the navigation, if you need to zoom, is terrible.

No, it just means that you will be waiting a while when you want to read if you left it for a while. I have mine sleep after 15 minutes and never power off. I plug in enough that I have no problems with battery life, an it is always ready to read.
