I really don't understand Kobo's "release" dates. I was surprised with people in France having a delivery date of Sept 1 and I figured that was a mistake on FNAC's behalf, but apparently people are getting them so it was right. And having said that I went with Chapters-Indigo online and mine is still scheduled for delivery Sept 2 (awaiting P/U by UPS currently). I know in past they have had devices show up in store before the "release" date and in one case in store before the online pre-orders arrived.
But Kobo is notoriously bad at sending tracking info and I wouldn't trust Kobo CS to have any actual clue about when they were shipping the pre-orders so there is still hope that people will get their Kobo direct orders on or before the 6th.
