The reason you are next in line, rather than merely renewed, is because they aren't able to extend the due date and instead it manifests as a new loan -- back-to-back with the old one.

You will have to re-checkout and download (ADE)/claim (Kindle) the book.
I didn't express myself well. To clarify - when I click "Renew":
1. If the book's available, then a "Renewed" note (or something to that effect displays)
2. If the book's unavailable, i.e., someone else has it on hold, then a "Request again" note (or something to that effect) is displayed, and than after clicking that link, I am put into the hold queue.
