Did you un-register it at some time in the past?

It was the result of the reset. It did the un-registering. It was totally registered before I got stuck in the Diagnostic screen. And I really think it would have simply restarted fine if I didn't forget to delete the DO_FACTORY_RESTORE file. That was what resulted in a wiped Oasis and the need to re-register. I wish I had looked at Device Info before I tried again...sorry about that.

Remember, I checked with the Kindle in Airplane mode and registered and UYK was available...then later in the same mode it wasn't available. But even then it was registered.

I really think my whole issue was simply that I never restarted the Oasis without the cover and USB cable (naked). All other jailbreaks and KUAL and extensions and SSH worked fine up to that point on 5.8.2.
