Maybe cerem0ny meant that the user should be naked rather than the device.

Such are the ambiguities of the English language, as the "naked" would appear to be associated with the verb "using" and therefore to the person and not the device. (This might also confirm why the first scratch would be more painful, i.e. having no clothes for protection.)
