Thank heaven I found this thread. I'm another victim of what I just read here is a bad firmware update. My Kobo N647 is showing all the symptoms described in this thread: the weird repeated notification that it's "updating your eReader software," an empty list of book titles. Now after a factory reset (which I did before discovering this forum) Windows Explorer claims that the Kobo root folder is empty, although I can still navigate the Kobo's menu and settings. The Kobo Desktop (which I was forced to update to the latest version, wouldn't let me proceed otherwise) tells me to connect the Kobo via the USB cable, but then nothing more happens for hours on end.
Please send me the image for the N647 model, thank you very much!
I'll look around the thread for instructions as to how to apply the image.
