It is a judgement.
In these types of cases you have to send in all the papers before the hearing, then there might be a hearing where everyone can have their say and the judge can ask any question he has. Then the judge takes everything in consideration and at a later date the verdict is made public.
There can also be delays, either so you can send in more information or the judge postpones the verdict. In another case (we've had 3 or 4 going on since 2013) the first date of the ruling was set for mid-December 2015, that was delayed by a month and then pushed back every time by two weeks. Until there finally was a judgement in June this year. This judgement was also pushed back because this judge wanted to wait what the ruling was on the other case (and then it was pushed back until September because of the summer holidays).
My father seems to be positive; tonight he has been looking at the options of going away for a weekend with my mother. Every since the start of the Family Thing in 2013 he has been saying he won't go away on vacation until everything is sorted. My parents hardly ever go on vacation, the last time they went away for a weekend must have been in 2010 or 2011. My sister and I had already decided that as a Christmas present we would book a weekend away in February (then it isn't too busy for me to work in the store alone on Saturday). We might still do that, it depends whether my parents really book a weekend away themselves and if they do it depends on when they go.
