The Moon and Sixpence sometime soon (which I think also includes an abandonment of a current career to become an artist??).
I am another that likes the way Maugham brings the characters to life and the directness and clarity of the prose.
Its short chapters also makes it easy to pick up and read in short sessions and that suits me.
I was pleasantly reminded, by his use, of one of those words that to me looks and sounds just like its meaning -
squiffy
