Do you have any other PC, ideally one on Windows 7 that you can test the kobo with. I bought a GLO HD last year that wasn't recognised by my W7 PC, it's possible it's a faulty device especially as you don't have the Aniversaty edition.

In my case I got a refund and bought another one which was fine.
