Just saw the kindle updated to version 5.8.2 and mentions "performance improvements ".
Everything is ok now, even the 'deleted' book shows in her library and all purchased books clearly have the 'remove from device' option. Maybe something happened during her update. But all appears good now. Thanks everyone.
