I then tried to set it in settings/apps and there is no way to set it there either. I have used CC for several years. Can anyone help?
The usual explanation is that you are downloading a format for which there isn't a reader app. For example, you might be downloading CBR files, which are not supported by either moon+ or the kindle app (Kindle for Android?).

Go to the book details screen for a book that will not open and check the format of that book (epub, pdf, cbr, what-have-you). I expect that you will see a format that isn't supported by any of your reader apps.

You can control which formats CC is permitted to download and their priority in Settings / Formats and folders. Up to around a month ago, that list was severely restricted, which caused a lot of support problems. The latest release allows all formats, even if there isn't a reader app for that format on the device.

If the format of the book is one that is supported by moon+ or K4A (epub, pdf, mobi, azw, azw3) then something else is happening. In that case please send me a CC debug log The FAQ answer How do I get help? tells you how to do that. If you send a debug log, please erase the multipie.co.uk email address, as you are already in conversation with me (the other address).
